Grading Scale:
100-93 A
92-90 A-
89 B+
88-83 B
82-80 B-
79 C+
78-73 C
72-70 C-
69 D+
68-63 D
62-60 D-
59 and below F
Academic Rules:
- Late assignments will be docked 10% for each day late. Weekends count as 20%.
- All major assignments (tests, papers, projects) must be handed in to pass even if they have fallen to 50% or below regarding the due date. The assignment will receive a 0, but must still meet the expectations of the teacher.
- Make-up work should be done ahead of time unless arranged with the teacher earlier.
- Assignments will be written on the board each week; therefore, there will be no excuses.
- Be ready for quizzes – they will happen randomly.
- If a student is caught cheating, the teacher will report the student to the office and the assignment will be given a 0. Also, any extra credit points earned to that point will be removed.
- Students will start the semester with 25 participation points. Those points can be lost through disruptive behavior, disrespect to teacher or other students, or lack of participation in classroom discussions.
- Grades will not always be updated in the computer. Make sure you communicate to your parents where your grade stands in the class. Your communication with your parents is very important.
Behavioral Expectations:
- Bullying will not be tolerated!!!!! If you are a victim of bullying or even a witness to bullying, please tell me!
- Do not interrupt either the teacher or a student speaking. Raise your hand to speak.
- Cellphones are not allowed in the classroom. If I see one on your desk, I will take it and give it back to you at the end of the day. Just think of my class as 50 minutes where social media can take a break!
- If your cellphone rings in your bag in class, the teacher will take it and you may pick it up after school. (Vibrating phones count as a ring if they disrupt the class)
- iPods are not allowed in the classroom and will be taken away if they show up. You may pick up the iPod after school
- No writing on the board unless the teacher asks you to do so.
- The teacher’s desk is off limits.
Writing Rules:
- No full justification. It will cause problems with the spacing throughout your paper
- No contractions. They should never be used in formal writing. They are allowed, however, in narrative writing.
- All papers must be double spaced
- No first person pronouns unless the writing is a narrative
- No questions as grabbers
- No second person pronouns unless the writing is a narrative
- No weak words such as “things” or “stuff”
- No clichés
- The heading will follow the MLA format which means it will be found in the upper LEFT hand corner and contain the following information:
o Jane Doe
o LA 10 Period 2
o Blair
o 2 September 2007
